Recording Beautiful Strings and Acoustic Instrument Things

Recording Violins Cello Viola and Acoustic Guitar

Strings! We love recording strings! In the particular session shown in the pic from a few months back we had to arrange a live recording setup for vocals, viola and guitar. The viola mic is out of shot mounted in the ceiling – but we used a beautiful vintage Bang and Olufsen BM6 ribbon microphone as it not only sounds beautiful – but it has good side rejection so did not pick up vocals or guitar! The vocals were recorded through a Guosheng U87 clone which has an added sibilance filter (nice!), and for the guitar we used one of the most crystal clear mics ever manufactured – developed for classical music capture – the Beyerdynamic M740n.

To the right of the picture we placed a Line Audio CM4 facing away from the trio to pick up a bit of natural ambience. The EP sounded absolutley gorgeous, natural and detailed – our churchy live room (with church bellows organ in situ!) is a recording wonder space – we use it for everything from vocals to guitar reamping and all points in between! Come to us for Primo Audio Capture – we have all the best mics and preamps! https://recordingstudiolondon.net/
